The absence of a stator will result in no spark coming from your motorcycle since your battery will not be able to supply the power levels needed to spark the generator. Due to this, if your stator goes bad, it will have a very negative effect on the way your motorcycle runs.

1# One of the most overlooked causes is time. The wear and tear of everything occurs over time. During the lifetime of a motorbike, it will be exposed to vibrations, heat, cold, wind, and water, as well as other elements. Everything tends to wear and tear with time and so do motorcycle components thus causing problems.

It is inevitable that your stator will wear out over time. You can expect it to last a very long time as long as you take care of it, but time is not your friend when it comes to bike components.

2# You should also be aware that a power overload is one of the most common causes of your stator failing. There is a possibility of this happening when you run too many accessories at the same time.  The stator on your motorcycle needs to be able to handle all of these accessories as well as provide power to your spark plugs.

This leads to the stator working much harder and producing a lot more power as a result. Your stator can wear out over a period of time as a result of this. Overloading a stator and rectifier can actually cause them to burn out if it is overloaded.

6# There is also a possibility that your bike will start backfiring at some point in the future. There is a possibility that this is caused by a bad stator. You would be able to tell if you have any of these symptoms if you suspect that you need to repair or replace your stator based on these symptoms.

7# The vibration also damages your stator a great deal. The vibration can cause the varnish on your stator windings that serve as an insulator to become rubbed off as a result of the vibration. It is advisable to start shorting the winding from the stator’s case if the winding comes off before you do so.

8# Your stator is also ruined pretty quickly by shorts. Unfortunately, preventing this from happening is a much more difficult task. The best thing you can do is avoid bumping into larger objects, however, you will still experience vibrations.

Stator Maintenance: How to Make It Last

A motorcycle stator’s longevity depends on the voltage and amps it has to handle. The life of the battery would be shortened if the regulator failed or if the wiring system was shorted.

If you take good care of your stator, you will be able to keep it running for quite some time. Stators have previously lasted many people over 200,000 miles, so your stator should be able to last you just as long, as well. High amperage is the main reason why stators burn out due to the fact that they are overloaded. Your stator can be shortened in life if you need higher amps since it will be subjected to higher voltages.

In conclusion, the stator distributes electricity from the alternator to the windings of the stator through the windings of the stator. It is very common for alternators to fail because of a faulty stator. Battery recharge is impossible with a failing alternator.

Repairing or Replacing a Stator

Stators on motorcycles can usually be repaired if necessary, but there is a much better chance that a replacement part will be available if a repair cannot be performed. It is particularly true if there is an available replacement part available for the item. It is usually much less expensive to replace a stator than to repair it, which is why it is so popular. In order to accomplish this task on your own, you will need to pay close attention to detail, but it will not be too difficult.
